University of Santo Tomas shook off a shaky performance against a determined Emilio Aguinaldo College side, securing victory in straight sets of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-19 during the 2023 V-League Collegiate Challenge on Wednesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Josh Ybañez played a pivotal role in generating the scoring that propelled the Golden Spikers to a solo second place with a 3-1 record, trailing only behind Ateneo's 3-0 slate. The UAAP Season 85 MVP concluded the game with 19 points, achieved through 13 successful attacks, four blocks, and two service aces.
Despite the win, head coach Odjie Mamon urged his players to recapture the discipline they had exhibited during the previous two victories.
He remarked, "We're still working on the mastery nung new system na being implented. Marami pang kulang, tapos nag-slide back sila. We have to work harder."
Fortunately, the Golden Spikers capitalized on their opportunities to score, heavily relying on their net defense throughout the match, accumulating a total of 10 kill blocks. Paul Colinares excelled in the middle position, contributing four of these rejections along with five successful attacks.
Jan Abor led the Generals with 12 points off the bench, while Ervin Osabel added 10 markers. Despite their efforts, EAC's record dropped to 0-4.
