UST and La Salle are both determined to maintain their winning streaks as they take on their respective opponents in the V-League Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday.
The Golden Tigresses are seeking their fourth consecutive win as they face off against the St. Benilde Lady Blazers in women’s play, while the Green Spikers aim to stretch their run to five in the men’s division against the FEU Tamaraws.
The España-based spikers have been dominant so far, securing victories against the Lyceum Lady Pirates, the UE Lady Warriors and the FEU Lady Tams. However, they are bracing for a tough challenge from the Lady Blazers, who have bounced back with two straight wins after dropping their first two matches. Gametime is at 10 a.m.
Despite UST’s strong start, head coach Kungfu Reyes emphasized the importance of continuous improvement.
“Paunti-unti na nagkakaroon ng resulta kung ano pinaghihirapan ng players, pero need pa rin ng enhancement, enhancement, at enhancement,” said Reyes.
In the men’s featured match at 3 p.m., the Green Spikers are focused on extending their strong start. However, they recognize the formidable challenge that the Tamaraws will bring, promising an intense and fiery showdown.
FEU is equally determined to secure a victory that would give the Tams a share of the lead at 4-1.
La Salle will once again rely on young stars Rui Ventura and Eugene Gloria to lead the charge, while FEU will look to key players like Jelord Talisayan and Dryx Saavedra.
“We’ll make sure yung lapses na na-encounter namin sa last game ay mabago namin para at least, maihanda namin against FEU,” said La Salle mentor Jose Roque.
In the other women’s match at 12 noon, the Lady Tamaraws try to improve their 2-2 record and secure a share of second place with the idle UP Fighting Maroons as they face the struggling Letran Lady Knights (1-1).
Meanwhile, in the 5 p.m. men’s duel, both NU and Ateneo are seeking redemption. The Bulldogs aim to snap a two-game skid, while the Blue Eagles look to end a three-game losing streak.
