Wing spikers Josh Ybañez, Emman Dedoroy and Gboy De Vega hammered in three consecutive kills to deny the Tamaraws a chance to force a decider and stay in the finals hunt.
"Thank you kay Lord na nakarating kami rito kahit nung third set nag-relax 'yung mga bata. Pero at least nung fourth set naibalik 'yung composure nila," said UST coach Benjamin Mape, whose wards also defeated the FEU side, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22, in the opener of their best-of-three series last Wednesday.
UST will meet the winner in the Ateneo-La Salle semis duel for the championship starting Wednesday.
Last season, the Golden Spikers fell to the NU Bulldogs in three tough games in the finals. Now, they have a chance for redemption.
Ybañez capped his match-long exploits of 28 points on 25 attacks, two blocks and an ace with seven excellent digs and 27 excellent receptions.
De Vega, on the other hand, finished with 18 markers while Rainier Flor chipped in 11 points for UST, which advanced to its second straight finals appearance.
Jomel Codilla scored 16 points while Dryx Saavedra wound up with 14 markers for the Tamaraws, who fell to the battle for the bronze.
