Perpetual outlasts Lyceum in 5 for bounce back win
Official V-League story coverage
University of Perpetual Help System DALTA carved out a bounce-back win, halting the comeback from the Lyceum of the Philippines University in five sets: 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 15-9, in the preliminary round of the 2023 V-League Collegiate Challenge on Sunday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

Trailing significantly at 2-6 early in the fifth set, head coach Sandy Rieta appealed to the psyche of the Lady Altas during an early timeout, and from that point on, there was no turning back for the team, securing a 2-1 record.

"Masaya ako na nung umabot sa fifth set, nakita ko ang puso nila. Medyo nagkaroon lang kami ng kaunting pag-antala at kailangan ko pang mag-time out. Hindi lang dapat hangad ay ang maglaro, kundi ang manalo," the chief mentor said.

Shaila Omipon led the charge for the Lady Altas with 19 points, contributing three of those during the crucial 11-1 run that extinguished any remaining fight in the Lady Pirates.

Charmaine Ocado added a modest 13 points to support Perpetual's cause.

The victory also spoiled the impressive performances of Janeth Tulang and Johna Dolorito, who each tallied 19 points, as Lyceum suffered its third consecutive setback.
