NU eyes No. 2 vs UST

Powerhouse National U seeks a follow-up to its imposing straight-set romp over St. Benilde as it faces UST in today’s (Sunday) resumption of the V-League Men’s Collegiate Championship at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The Tiger Spikers also hurdled their initial assignment against the Arellano U side last Friday but the former needed five sets to hack out the win, giving the Espana-based squad so much work to do to neutralize the fancied Bulldogs, who are coming off a rousing victory in the Spikers’ Turf.

Gametime is at 1 p.m. after the 10 a.m. opener pitting San Beda and Far Eastern U with the Red Spikers dropping a four-set defeat to the pacesetting Ateneo Eagles (2-0) but winning over the UP Maroons, also in four. The Tams yielded a tough five-set loss to the Perpetual Help Altas.

The Las Piñas-based school is also shooting for a second win in its 3 p.m. clash with UP, which also split its first two games, winning over San Sebastian but bowing to San Beda.

Fierce action is also expected in the 5 p.m. main game of another busy schedule with La Salle and Adamson disputing a share of the lead after hurdling Arellano and St. Benilde in last week’s inaugurals of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Asics, Beyond Active Wear and Mikasa.
