Far Eastern U rebounded from a tough first-set loss to sweep the next three sets, securing a 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 29-27 victory over Ateneo de Manila for a share of the early lead in the V-League Men’s Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday.

Mikko Espartero led FEU’s charge, rising above two blockers to deliver a powerful cross-court attack that broke the 26-all tie in the fourth set. Although Aimar Okeke countered with a back-row spike to even the score again, FEU regained the upper hand on an Ejira Taluban's service error in the ensuing play.

Doula Ndongala then blocked Matthew Salarzon to clinch the set and the match for the Morayta-based squad.

The victory was FEU’s second consecutive win, following its four-set triumph over UST last Wednesday, tying them with the National University Bulldogs at the top of the standings.

"Kinapitan lang talaga ng mga bata eh. Gusto nilang gumalaw ng tama, pero marami pang kailangan asikasuhin sa service, block, depensa, sobrang dami pa," said FEU head coach Eddieson Orcullo.

Espartero was instrumental in the win, contributing 14 points from nine attacks, four blocks, and an ace, while also excelling in defense with 15 excellent receptions and four digs.

"Siguro naka-mindset lang kami na kapag laro, talagang laro lang. Whether we like it or not, kailangan pumukpok kasi trabaho namin 'yan," added Orcullo

Team captain Jelord Talisayan added 13 points, 12 of which came from attacks, while rookie Amet Bituin contributed 12 points.

FEU will return to action on Aug. 14 against NCAA champion University of Perpetual Help System DALTA at 12 noon.

Ateneo, which fell to a 1-1 record after a previous shutout win over Emilio Aguinaldo College, was led by Okeke with 14 points.

Kennedy Batas added 13 markers, and Jettlee Gopio and Matthew Salarzon each finished with 10 points for the Blue Eagles, who will look to bounce back against Colegio de San Juan de Letran next Sunday at 5 p.m.
