Carl Berdal blasted in a counter-attack behind a superb floor defense after the Blazers wiped out a 20-24 in the third to extend the match then the Chiefs forced an error on the Blazers' attack in the ensuing play to pound out the victory, their first after three straight losses.
But Arellano forced a tie with St. Benilde and Adamson in the wild race to the playoff with the Chiefs grabbing fourth place with higher match points than the Blazers and the Soaring Falcons.
"Ang nangyari ngayon, yun nga, mas matagal yung preparation. Hindi katulad nung mga nauna naming games, talagang short yung preparation. Yung game ngayon, nag-prepare talaga kami kasi syempre kalaban sa NCAA. Thankful kami at nakakuha din ng panalo," said Arellano head coach Sherwin Meneses.
Setter Adrian Villados held the Chiefs together and finished with 11 excellent sets to go with three points on two attacks and one block while Berdal ended up with 17 points on 16 spikes and one block, and Clarence Guinto added 14 markers on 12 attacks, one block and an ace.
Georgie Guani scored 13 points for St. Benilde, all on attacks, but the Chiefs’ defense held the rest to single-digit outputs, including skipper Roniey Adviento, who finished with nine points.
